The Highlands Behind Us
(Stina) After a good night’s sleep and some quick food, I set out to explore a remote valley nearby. I had time on my hands, so I decided to see what the area had to offer. That’s when I stumbled upon a charming little farm with a shop selling local handmade goods, ice cream, and artisanal products from around the world.
I had a nice chat with the elderly couple running it. Their daughter-in-law had actually done Norge på langs on skis and by bike — which I found super impressive. I treated myself to a scoop of organic cinnamon ice cream (yes, it was as good as it sounds), then continued on my way.
I stopped several times along the road — because, well… Norway. The scenery demands it. These fjords and mountains are breathtaking. Even as a Norwegian, I’m constantly blown away by their beauty. And it’s especially fascinating for me to experience this southern nature more deeply. It’s different, but still so majestic.
Eventually, I began the longer drive toward Haukeliseter, but not without a little detour through the village of Røldal. There, I stopped at a camping site to recharge everything — literally and figuratively. I charged devices, filled up the water tanks, did a load of laundry, showered, and cooked a quick dinner.
Then it was time to head to Haukeliseter to meet Petr, who had just completed his massive 150 km unsupported crossing of the Setesdalheiene. He arrived tired, sore, and completely cooked — but still going strong. I’m honestly in awe of what he’s doing out there.
We reunited, found a place to park and sleep for the night, and since it was already a bit late, we just crawled into bed.
Time to sleep. Tomorrow is for sure rest-day.
