Through Wind, Rain, and the Weight of Yesterday
We started the day from the Vøringsfossen parking lot, and for once, it was actually early — at least by our standards. But Petr didn’t feel like running at all. After the brutal 91 km day across Hardangervidda, his legs were paying the price. Understandably so.
So I made a quick breakfast right there by the car — some warm porridge and my usual matpakke sandwiches. He took his vitamins and minerals like a champ, but he really didn’t feel like eating much, which is always worrying when there’s such a long day ahead. Still, he forced down a bit and eventually got himself together and started running.
I stayed back for a bit, trying to get a little more sleep, but it was hopeless. Once I’m awake and it’s so bright outside the van, sleep just doesn’t happen. So instead, I found a camping spot five minutes down the road, took the chance to wash clothes, refill our water, and get some dishes done. Then I hit the road toward Geilo to grab some groceries.
The weather wasn’t on our side. It rained hard most of the day, and I couldn’t stop thinking about Petr, wondering how he was doing up in the mountains, soaked and tired.
After shopping in Geilo, I drove about an hour further to Vestredalsvann, where we decided to meet up and sleep for the night. Petr arrived late in the evening — tired but still moving forward.
We tried to get some rest. Tomorrow is going to be another big day.
